Introduction: the value of taking a photo is that you can cherish these moments in your life and still remember them, as photos are memories we can easily remember as photos can show us the past and sometimes the future but the photo the narrator took was of the sky and his brother asked him why he took a photo of the sky as the narrator’s brother just thought it was a normal Tuesday morning but the narrator took the photo of the sky as he wanted to look back at the photo in the future. He also explained as you get older memories fade so when he took this photo he wanted to remember taking the photo of the sky, throughout the story he uses a wide range of language features such as metaphors, similes, personification, etc.

The simile that is used is “Sun like a halo over the hills, trees waltzing with each other to a sudden gust of wind.” this simile was used as it relates to the sky as he is saying that the sun is shining bright over the hills he is also saying that it is windy that is why he describes the trees waltzing he is using these language features to show how important the value of a photo really is. he uses a few similes throughout the story as he is trying to show people that photos are really valuable and he is also trying to tell us what the photo looks like as well because the narrator is describing time throughout the story he also tries to tell his brother how precious time is when his brother asks why he is taking a photo of the sky which he explains that it is because he wants to remember taking the photo when he is older as time is running out as we get older we don’t know how long we have left before we die so having these memories are great as you can remember them forever.

The metaphor that is used is “it’ll spiral up and fly away with each passing minute. Lost to the wind, unless someone sticks out their hand to catch it, clutches it tight so that even if it’s been torn and crumpled it can’t slip away this metaphor was used to show the readers that it is great to hang on to memories as you might never see those memories again the narrator took a photo of the sky because he wanted to hang on to that memory forever. Because he wanted something to keep when he was older as he explained memories fade but photos don’t as photos are easy to remember but some memories fade as you get older when the author said “fall away like sand in an hourglass” he said this because as you get older you will lose some memories he also said this when he was saying that time was running out as an hourglass is used to show time and if the sand at the top reaches the bottom time has run out

He used personification when he said “when im old, when my face is tissue-paper tearing with every smile , i won’t have to grasp frantically at my memories as they fall away like sand in an hourglass.” This is shown as personification as these non human things are given human qualities. The narrator used personification as he was trying to give non human things human like qualities as he was describing what they were doing like when the author said “Sun like a halo over the hills, trees waltzing with each other to a sudden gust of wind.” this is also shown as personification as well as simile. When the author says “trees waltzing with each other to a sudden gust of wind”. This shows us that it is very windy as the trees are blowing around in the wind. When the author says “Sun like a halo over the hills”. This shows us that it is very bright over the hills and it might be hard to see the hills because of how bright it is

Conclusion: in conclusion we can see that the narrator used these language features as he was trying to describe what the photo looked like and he was also telling us why he was taking the photo as he implied memories fade but photos don’t so when he implied he wanted something to look back on he decided to take a photo and his brother asked him why he was taking the photo and he told him why but his brother still saw the sky as a normal Tuesday morning as the narrator’s brother has not seen how fast the sun has risen behind the clouds the narrator wanted to hold on to this moment in time for quite a long time as he said it will never be seen again so he took the photo to see that he could see that moment again. He also explains that time is running out when he says “it’ll spiral up and fly away with each passing minute”. What is being said is that the narrator wants to show the audience what the photo looks like throughout the short story, he describes what the photo looks like as he says “the way the houses wink at me in the orange light. About the sun soaked grass, the tiny blades dancing in their sparkling dew dresses.” this shows us that the houses are friendly, welcoming, flirty, playful it also shows us that he is interacting with the houses. what the narrator is meant to show us is that photos are very valuable as we age we lose memories but photos never fade and you can see them in the future so it is better taking photos so you can remember these memories forever he is showing us ageing when he says “when im old, when my face is tissue-paper tearing with every smile, i won’t have to grasp frantically at my memories as they fall away like sand in an hourglass.” this is an example of metaphor as he shows us that he will forget some memories but he will remember taking the photo that he took on his phone as photos never fade but memories will always fade throughout your life time so the best way to hold onto these memories are to take photos as you can hold onto these for a very long time. so the best way to hold onto these memories are to take photos as you can hold onto these for a very long time. When people grow older and they decide to have kids and they want to show their kids these memories they had when they were growing up photos are a great way to show them what the photos look like so having these photos they can experience seeing these photos that their parents had when they were growing up and they can also see what happened in the past as it is good for kids to know what happened in the past and what their parents looked like in the past while they were growing up and they might also show their kids holidays that they went on when they were growing up. So it is best to keep photos as they are really valuable once they are destroyed you might lose that memory forever as the memories are precious and we should hold onto them for a long time as we don’t know how long these memories last. What i am trying to say is as we get older we forget a lot of memories that we would remember as kids so if we went on holidays when we are older we remember them more than if we went on a holiday when we were younger as you remember the holiday more when your an adult than if you were very young. This is because it is a much longer time ago to remember these memories and when we get older we remember a lot more memories than we did when we were younger that is because we have a lot more memories when we are older such as getting married/ engaged, having kids, getting licenses, holidays, etc but when we are very young we don’t have that many memories so we forget about those memories as we age.

  1. Hi Phoenix,

    Look to:
    – use punctuation to give greater meaning and effect to your writing. Get some full stops in your sentences to allow the reader to digest the information you’re sharing.
    – make sure that your intro is concise and outlines what your body paragraphs will cover, without going into too much detail.

    Feedback:
    – look to UNPACK the language features.  There are two things to consider when analysing them – what is being said and what is meant.  Go further on breaking down both.
    – continue to relate back to the value of taking photographs
